When you ask someone where you can find the nearest metro station, you'll probably get this reply: "What metro?"
Although not as famous as its New York and Washington, D.C. equivalents, the Baltimore Metro is a convenient alternative to rush-hour traffic. Serving 14 stops between Owings Mills and Baltimore, this 15-mile subway system runs seven days a week, with trains arriving every 10-20 minutes (and about every 8 minutes during peak hours).
The metro has stations near many popular attractions and busy locations such as Lexington Market, Johns Hopkins Hospital, Shot Tower/Market Place, State Center and Charles Center (on the corner of Baltimore and Charles Streets). Outside of downtown, the Metro stops at Mondawmin Mall, West Cold Spring, Reisterstown Plaza, Milford Mill, Old Court Road and Owings Mills (near I-795). And while traffic can make a commute ridiculously long, the metro runs its entire line, from Owings Mills to Johns Hopkins Hospital, in approximately 25 minutes. --Kari Rosenthal
