Has Charm City lost its charm? Want to get away? Baltimore has access to the United States rail system with Amtrak. With vicinity stops at Baltimore, Penn Station and Washington, Union Station, Amtrak allows access to more than 900 stops in the United States and Canada. Just think: In a mere 3 days, 12 hours and 33 minutes, you could be in Sacramento, California! Or, for the more rational traveler, in only 2 hours and 22 minutes, you could go from Baltimore's Penn Station to the slightly more famous Penn Station in New York City. The reservations-only Metroliner, in addition to serving Baltimore and New York City, makes stops in Philadelphia, Newark and Wilmington. For a cheaper fare (and a longer train ride), the NortheastDirect (Boston to Newport News) train line also makes a stop at Baltimore, Penn Station. On weekends when the Maryland Rail Commuter (MARC) trains aren't operating, passengers can travel to Washington, Union Station on the NortheastDirect Line in about 45 minutes. The NortheastDirect also stops at Boston, New Haven, Trenton, New York City, Philadelphia, Norfolk and Williamsburg. --Kari Rosenthal
