This is Baltimore's answer to the 9:30 Club. Sure it doesn't have all the perks of that high rolling bar -- it's smaller, the sound is mediocre, and there are fewer big name acts on the bill -- but it sure is a hell of a lot closer and in a better neighborhood (why, you could even take the wife and 21-years and older offspring to a show and not have to worry about getting jacked on the way back to the car).
The bar is split into two parts: the upstairs is reserved for concerts and the downstairs is reserved for eating, drinking, pool playing, and fooseball knocking.
The concert area is divided into three parts -- a lounge, a bar and the concert area. The lounge is where rockers may encounter Mink Stole wannabes, the bar is where they'd drink until the wannabes start looking pretty good, and the concert area is where they'd catch the rock band and try to forget about the poor sound system.
Don't let that Mink Stole comment fool ya, Fletcher's is frequented by the college frat/sorority club as much as any Fell's Point joint. Also, lest you think this is your "own special little dive," think again. While the acts that perform here are definitely cult hits or has-beens, they sure ain't nobodies and the place gets pretty packed pretty quickly.
The downstairs bar is decorated in a Stanley Kubrick-esque style circa "A Clockwork Orange," if Alex had been into billiards. Despite the appearance, it's still possible to get a pint of Guinness and a Coke for under $5 to enjoy while listening to the eclectic jukebox selections.--Andy Hershberger
Food served in the downstairs bar from 11 until 2 every day and happy hours is from 4 to 7 and all day on Sundays.
