Ever heard of the vocal group Dru Hill? This Baltimore-bred jazzy foursome got their name from Druid Hill Park in west Baltimore. The park consists of a series of rolling hills, a reservoir and the Baltimore Zoo. Chock full of runners, cyclists and weirdos, the park is primarily seasonal -- crowded in the summer and empty the rest of the year. There are paved paths and grassy knolls, and most of the park is shaded by large, leafy trees. On the south end, near 28th Street, lies Druid Lake, a popular running oval. Personally, I've never felt unsafe while running there, but if you're taking a trip to Druid Hill, always keep safety in mind. Much of the criticism the park receives is about its location, with the Jones Falls Expressway forming the eastern border, Druid Hill Avenue to the west and 28th Street to the south. Over the years, this area around the park has deteriorated, making park safety questionable. Despite this reputation, Druid Hill Park is beautiful. Flowers bloom during the spring and summer months, birds chirp and the Zoo attracts people from all over the region. On the whole, it's a clean place, the people are friendly and the paths are fun. And if you're lucky, you might catch an aspiring musician practicing his craft. --Michael Sachdev
