The Annapolis City Dock is where the town's Historic District and day-to-day activities meld into one. The Annapolis City Dock was once a Colonial port,
surrounded by warehouses, a ship carpenter's lot, and taverns. Today you'll
be sure to find the headquarters of the Harbor Master, work boats, tour
boats, pleasure craft, and visiting ships. Annapolis' City Dock is home to
some of the most unique boat shows in the region. The Bay Bridge Boat Show
in April is the largest spring boat show on the Chesapeake, and the United
States Sailboat Show in October is the first and largest of its kind in the
country.

Although water scenes still play a major role in preserving the Dock's
charm, today it also houses numerous shops and restaurants. Outdoor Navy
band concerts are highlights of summer at the Dock, while a dazzling display
of decorated sailboats lights up the holidays. Sightseeing cruises and water
taxis leave regularly from the Dock. A special plaque commemorates Kunta
Kinte, the young African portrayed in Alex Haley's "Roots," who was sold
into slavery in 1767 at the Annapolis Dock. If you're still unsure of what
to do, stop by the Visitors Information Booth.--Meital Waibsnaider
