Knicks may actually be worth watching
There's this entertaining thing you can do now: buy a ticket to a Knicks game, go to Madison Square Garden and have fun.
Yeah, I can¹t quite believe it either.
During games prior to the Knicks¹ inspiring, 119-112 defeat of Denver, the Garden was a quiet respite from a noisy city.
But this week, the Garden was the hot hoops cauldron it¹s reputed to be, and the fans were full-throated screamers during just the second home game of the 2007-08 season.
These Knicks (2-1) weren¹t the Slobberbockers who have won so sporadically this decade. Remarkably, the home team¹s play generated the excitement.
Jumping with a passion that was absent last year, there were Knicks who unleashed a fiery scream after powering in a score while being fouled (Eddy Curry), turned a rebound-seeking leap on offense into a sharp putback dunk (David Lee), drove headlong for a clutch flip-in (Jamaal Crawford) and made lock-down defense lead to a fast-break finish (Renaldo Balkman).
Perhaps we¹re jumping the gun, and this Knicks return to glory will be as fleeting as Allan Houston¹s unretirement.
Still, this ungainly but talented group may thrill again this weekend -- against the Orlando Magic on Friday or the hated Miami Heat on Sunday.
It may be worth watching, just to find out.
