Is the All-Star game over yet?
In my dream they are still there, baseball players trotting onto the bright Yankee Stadium field, warming up for the 16th inning like eternally wound-up toys.
The All-Star game is over only in the sense that the American League beat the National League 4-3 on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 15th inning early Wednesday morning at Yankee Stadium.
In so many other ways, the four-hour, 50-minute contest is still playing out in my maddened mind.
I'm still rooted in the the loge press area over right field, still searching through strange scenarios that will arise if both sides use up their final pitcher.
To my left, a colleague is consulting an online Magic 8 Ball on his laptop. "Will Ryan Ludwick hit a home run right now?" "No way."
Yankee Stadium, singing its swan song, will not release its grasp, will not allow this game to conclude. Or if it does finally say farewell, I won't.
