Words seem inadequate to thank Jeanne Zeidler for her long and tireless service as our mayor. She has added immeasurably to our city’s stature and worked to provide citizens with the quality of life we’ve come to expect.

Her list of ‘What’s Next” activities is probably a long one, and I’m asking that she add a consideration to those possibilities. Our fair town is much in need of its own City Museum. We serve as a microcosm in so many ways of the history of our nation. The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation does an invaluable job with our late-18th century role in history. Here in the city, we have the opportunity and the responsibility to also recognize and honor residents from all periods of time: Native Americans, early European settlers, African slaves, Revolutionary War heroes and struggling patriots, participants in the local Civil War battle, as well as the population who lived here in the 20th and 21st centuries.

We have world-class experts living here who are capable of finding, identifying, and acquiring historical artifacts from hundreds of years of history. We have a citizenship who will without doubt step up to volunteer their skills, knowledge and time to help make this happen. Beautiful, historic homes near the downtown area exist that would serve the purpose perfectly.

Please, Mayor Zeidler, think about using your wide leadership experience, skills, and contacts to help make this happen. A Williamsburg City Museum could become a valuable addition to our city’s appeal and to our local economy.

I will definitely volunteer to help this effort. I can be contacted at wcmuseum@yahoo.com.
