Stulen guides Rams

HAMPTON — Carter Stulen won gold in two events and added two relay victories to lead Lafayette High’s boys swim team to a 52-42 victory over Jamestown last Saturday at Hampton University’s Holland Hall.

Stulen set the standard in the 50 freestyle (23.40) and the 100 butterfly (54.65) for the Rams, who clinched second place in the Bay Rivers District standings.

The senior also teamed with David Anderson, Brett Huckstep and Ty Harkins to win the 200-medley relay (1:46.48).

Stulen collaborated with Carter Kale, Nick Huckstep and Ben Colley to earn top honors in the 400-freestyle relay (3:26.18).


Colley garnered double-winner status for Lafayette, posting wins in the 100 freestyle (49.53) and the 100 backstroke (1:00.05). Brett Huckstep won gold in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.75).

Brett Huckstep and Colley teamed with Carter Kale and Ty Harkins to win the 200-freestyle relay (1:33.29).

Christian Shaner touched the wall first in the 200-individual medley (2:02.30) and the 500 freestyle (4:54.99) to lead Jamestown.

Andrew Thiesse was first in the 200 freestyle (1:52.00).

Warhill — Chris Balch and Taylor Fisher combined to win four individual events and two relays as Warhill edged Bruton 51-42 last Saturday at Hampton University’s Holland Hall.

Balch dominated the distance events with wins in the 200-individual medley (2:08.27) and the 500 freestyle (5:06.11).

Fisher captured top honors in the 100 butterfly (57.23) and the 100 backstroke (1:01.99).

The duo teamed with Sean Diven and Anthony Kormos to win the 200-freestyle relay (1:36.39). Taylor and Fisher also collaborated with Diven and Josh Dutro to win the 400-freestyle relay (3:37.76) for Warhill.

Other individual victories for the Lions included Dutro in the 200 freestyle (2:05.56) and Diven in the 100 freestyle (54.12).

Scott Racoosin paced Bruton with a victory in the 50 freestyle (24.28). Josh Holmes earned individual gold in the 100 breaststroke (1:14.83) for the Panthers.

The duo also teamed with Tom McGovern and Bobby Monk to win the 200-medley relay (1:55.31).
