Phelps nominated for Golden Goggles
Michael Phelps has been nominated for several Golden Goggle Awards, given for the year's top American swimming performances. Phelps of Rodgers Forge was nominated for male athlete of the year, for male performance of the year and for the year's top relay performance. Paul Yetter of North Baltimore Aquatic Club was nominated for coach of the year.

Landis gets jump on doping defense
Floyd Landis rolled out key elements of his defense against doping charges in an online presentation, several months before the cyclist is scheduled to present his case to an arbitration panel in hopes of keeping his Tour de France title. Landis posted a presentation prepared by Arnie Baker, a retired doctor and longtime coach and adviser, as well as several hundred pages of documents related to the charges on his Web site, www.floydlandis.com.

Mavericks extend Johnson's contract
Mavericks coach Avery Johnson has signed a new five-year contract that will keep him in Dallas through 2011. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

• Wizards // Guard Antonio Daniels sprained his left ankle during practice and was listed as day-to-day.

• Pacers // Guard Stephen Jackson was led away in handcuffs in Indianapolis after a judge entered a not-guilty plea on his behalf on a felony charge of criminal recklessness for a fight outside a strip club. Jackson was booked into jail and released after posting $10,000 bond.

French chief
convicted on charges
A criminal court convicted the president of the French Olympic Committee on corruption charges, and he was given a three-month suspended sentence. Henri Serandour was accused of giving two lucrative jobs to a communications company that had hired his wife, former swimmer Catherine Poirot.

NCAA adds year
to Kansas probation
Kansas avoided postseason bans on its football and basketball programs, but the NCAA added an extra year to the school's self-imposed two-year probation and cut additional scholarships. Kansas had placed itself on probation as a result of an investigation into its athletic program by the NCAA Division I Committee on Infractions. But the committee, finding a lack of institutional control, extended the penalty through Oct. 11, 2009.

Miami's Moore
could face charges
Miami wide receiver Ryan Moore is expected to face misdemeanor charges stemming from an August incident in which he allegedly grabbed a woman's throat and pushed her to the ground, Hurricanes coach Larry Coker said. Ed Griffith, a spokesman for the Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office, told The Miami Herald misdemeanor charges of battery and criminal mischief would be filed next week.

Coach sentenced
to 1-6 years in prison
A youth baseball coach accused of offering an 8-year-old money to bean an autistic teammate so he couldn't play was sentenced to one to six years in prison. Fayette (Pa.) County Judge Ralph Warman sentenced 29-year-old Mark R. Downs Jr. of Dunbar, Pa., to consecutive six- to 36-month sentences for corruption of minors and criminal solicitation to commit simple assault.

• Pitch count // Pitchers in the Little League World Series will be held to a pitch count similar to the limit used in the regular season. Pitchers ages 11 to 12 will be limited to 85 pitches a day. At age 9 to 10, the limit is 75 pitches. Pitchers 13-16 are limited to 95 pitches and pitchers 16-18 are limited to 105 a day.
