Imus' thoughts on Dallas' A. Jones create stir

Don Imus has again injected race into his radio show.

During an on-air conversation yesterday about the arrests of suspended Dallas Cowboys cornerback Adam Jones, Imus asked, "What color is he?"

Told by sports announcer Warner Wolf that Jones is "African-American," Imus responded: "There you go. Now we know."

Imus was fired from his old show last year after he made a racially charged comment about the Rutgers women's basketball team. He said yesterday's comments were misunderstood.

"I meant that he was being picked on because he's black," he said in a statement released by his spokesman.

Civil rights leader Al Sharpton issued a statement before Imus' gave explanation calling the exchange disturbing "because it plays into stereotypes."

WABC and Citadel Broadcasting Corp. vice president Phil Boyce said it was unlikely disciplinary action would be taken against Imus.

Jones' attorney couldn't be reached for comment.
