Logan Square tops the list of "Chicago's least faithful neighborhoods," according to data released today by AshleyMadison.com, a site that connects married people who want to cheat on their spouses with other married people who think that sounds just ducky. (Tagline: "Life is short. Have an affair.")
Of the 151,000 Chicago affair-seekers registered on the site, 9.3 percent reside in Logan Square, the 'hood known for its dense population of tattooed hipsters, enviable farmers market, white-hot restaurant scene and, apparently, loose morals.
It's also where my husband and I live with our three kids.
"The Chicago data is consistent with what we've seen in other cities," AshleyMadison.com founder and CEO Noel Biderman said in a press release. "Affluence is a common element found on most cities' top 10 lists."
When I relayed this information to my husband, he said, "Affluence? What affluence?"
(Slightly off point, but preferable to, "What was that site again?")
Lincoln Park is a close second in infidelity, with an even 9 percent calling that posh North Side neighborhood home. River North came in third at 8.7 percent.
Other interesting tidbits from the site's analysis:
• The average age of registered users is 35 for female; 37 for male.
• Forty-five percent of its Chicago philanderers are female.
• Cheaters who live in the Gold Coast have the most affair partners.
Other 'hoods that made the list: East Side at No. 4, Hyde Park at No. 5, followed by, in descending order, Bucktown, Gold Coast, Oak Park, The Loop and Roscoe Village.
Which raises a couple of questions (in addition to the obvious, "What in the …" and "Who in the …").
For starters, "East Side?" Never heard of it. And Oak Park? Not a neighborhood.
But far be it for me to argue over designations with a group that defines marriage so bleakly.
