Dominion shareholders have voted to change the company's name, according to a news release.
Dominion Resources, Inc. is now Dominion Energy, Inc. Dominion Virginia Power also becomes Dominion Energy Virginia. The company has more than 720,000 electricity customers in Hampton Roads.
The company's website reflects the change: dominionenergy.com, and the company now has a new logo.
The change means local utility bills and other businesses are combined under the Dominion Energy name, the release stated.
Customers will see the new name reflected on company bills, building signs and trucks in the next few months, the release stated.
"Our 16,200 employees remain dedicated to meeting the needs of our six million customers and others who depend on us. This new name is reflective of that dedication. Energy is at the core of our modern life," Thomas F. Farrell, II, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Dominion Energy said in the release.
