Tuesday slightly cooler, but fairly high heat index still expected

Tuesday will still be hot and sunny, but not quite as hot as Monday was, according to the National Weather Service.

Temperatures are forecast to reach about 91 degrees in Newport News with sunny skies and with a light wind that picks up to about 5–10 mph in the morning. Heat indices may still reach near 100 degrees in Hampton Roads in the afternoon.

The NWS has issued a hazardous weather outlook for Tuesday, though it does not expect to issue a heat advisory like it did on Monday. It recommends people heading outside in the afternoon wear sunscreen and drink plenty of water.

Currently, the Fourth of July is expected to be just a fraction cooler with a high of 89 and a slight chance of thunderstorms after 2 p.m.
