The Virginia Aquarium in Virginia Beach is joining a long list of venues and retailers that are offering freebies to federal workers during the government shutdown.
The aquarium and Virginia Beach city-operated historic houses (Adam Thoroughgood, Lynnhaven House and Francis Land House) will offer free admission on weekdays to federal workers who are affected by the government shutdown.
The discount applies to the worker only, and they must show photo ID and paperwork indicating their furloughed status. Spouses and children still pay regular admission.
“We want the furloughed workers to come and enjoy our city museums, instead of sitting at home. We want them to know we’re rooting for them and hope the shutdown ends quickly,” said Aquarium Executive Director Lynn Clements.
The Aquarium is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily; check museumsvb.org for historic house times.
