Build a spook-tacular house
Make decorating a haunted house a family project with a No-Bake Halloween Haunted House Kit from Williams-Sonoma. Pre-cut baked chocolate cookie pieces can be "glued" together with the kit's icing (orange, black) to build the 71/2-inch-tall house. Halloween-perfect packets of candies (candy corn, orange-and-black bats, sprinkles, "pumpkin" gum balls), a cookie headstone, a tube of white icing for accents and a cardboard base are included. The most important ingredient? Patience. The icing used to assemble the house needs to set before decorating. It's $24.95. For a store locator or to buy: williams-sonoma.com.
Bacon amps up Alfredo flavor
A busy autumn is no reason to blow off dinner prep if your cupboard holds a jar of Savory Bacon-flavored Prego Alfredo Sauce from Campbell's. Toss with a favorite pasta (and perhaps some peas), bake in a casserole with browned chicken pieces, or try it spooned over a steamed broccoli-cauliflower mix, which we enjoyed. Deliciously rich, a 1/4-cup serving has 70 calories, 6g fat and 400 mg sodium. One of Prego's three new Alfredo-style sauces (also Homestyle, Artisan Three Cheese), a 14.5-ounce jar has a suggested retail price of $2.59. At supermarkets nationwide. Store locator: prego.com.
Halloween shapes up sweet treats
Charm Halloween celebrants with candies or minicakes made with a Pumpkin Silicone Mold from Wilton. It makes 24 treats (about 11/2-inch diameter each). The mold is oven safe to 500 degrees, as well as freezer, microwave and dishwasher safe. The suggested retail price is $9.99. At bakeware and craft retailers. Online: wilton.com.
