Get a free azalea for Earth Day
Ken Matthews Garden Center in Grafton is offering a free azalea to the first 100 people in the store on Saturday, April 19.

Urban gardener lectures on herbs
Billi Parus, a life member of the Herb Society of America and the Herb Society of Great Britain, will present two urban gardening lectures at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, April 26-27, according to a release from the Fred Heutte Center.
Parus, who is also a Master Gardener in Virginia Beach, maintains an herb garden with more than 200 plants.

Herb, art and craft sale
The 33rd Annual Herb Sale & Festival at the Fred Heutte Center in Norfolk takes place Saturday-Sunday, April 26-27 at Ghent Square, 1000 Botetourt Gardens in Norfolk.
The sale includes herbs, heirloom vegetables, herbal products, plant-related goods as well as jewelry and crafts from multiple vendors, according to a news release.
Hours are Saturday, April 26 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. and Sunday, April 27 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Learn to make a rain barrel
Mathews Master Gardeners will offer a rain barrel making workshop on Saturday, May 3 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
The workshop, limited to 20 participants, is a hands-on construction event, the group said in a release.
Rain barrels and supplies must be purchased in advance by calling the Virginia Cooperative Extension Office at 804-725-7196. The fee is $35 and can be sent to the Mathews Extension Office, P.O. Box 569, Mathews VA 23109.
