Bacon Street Youth and Family Services is looking to raise funds to help combat the rising opioid epidemic.

The third annual fundraising gala, “An Evening for Bacon Street Auction,” is slated for Feb. 2 at Two Rivers Country Club. The event will include cocktails, dinner, musical entertainment and a silent and live auction.

“The gala came about as a way for us to celebrate the hard work and services that have been provided during the past year and to raise funds for the future,” said Kim Dellinger, executive director of Bacon Street. “It’s been a great way for us to have a lot of fun, get dressed up and support a really good cause.”

For 46 years, Bacon Street has been serving children, teens and their families in Williamsburg, James City and York counties, Poquoson, Hampton and Newport News who are struggling with addiction, substance use and mental health disorders.

“With the nationwide opioid crisis reaching all-time highs, this year’s event is more important than ever,” Dellinger said. “Bacon Street is committed to being part of the solution addressing the opioid epidemic in our area. The auction is our largest fundraising event and proceeds raised directly impact our community.”

The gala will kick off with “Cocktails and Sunset,” and a silent auction. Rick Overy, from Compass Wealth Strategies, will serve as the auctioneer and Master of Ceremonies. There also will be a live auction and a four-course dinner prepared by chefs at Two Rivers Country Club. The auction will feature a variety of items, including trips and local experiences, jewelry and artwork.

“We will also be featuring a ‘wine pull’ and a ‘grub grab’ as new additions to the silent auction,” said Dellinger. “Our keynote speaker will also be sharing their personal story of triumph over addiction and the importance of the work that Bacon Street Youth and Family Services is doing in the community.”

More than $38,000 was raised for Bacon Street through the previous two galas. Funds from this year’s event will go specifically to the clinical and prevention programs that Bacon Street provides.
