Jae Sinnett is on a musical journey headed in one direction: forward.

The jazz musician has never stopped learning, loving or pursuing the craft.

Williamsburg can experience this journey as Sinnett plays two shows at the Williamsburg Regional Library this weekend. Joined by three fellow jazz musicians, Sinnett will perform selections from his upcoming album, “Zero to 60.”

Based in Norfolk, Sinnett is a drummer, composer and band leader. His repertoire spans 13 recordings and over 150 compositions. Notable performances include the Ella Fitzgerald Jazz Festival and Tucson Jazz Festival.

As a former music education major at Norfolk State and Old Dominion Universities, Sinnett is an experienced jazz educator. He is also a longtime jazz producer and host at NPR-affiliate WHRV 89.5 FM in Norfolk.

Music is his consuming passion, and Sinnett works tirelessly at the craft, focusing on melody and art.

“With every passing day, I learn something new,” Sinnett said in an email. “These life experiences help to shape my art so it keeps moving forward.”

In turn, “my music always reflects the beauty and intrigue of what I’ve lived,” he said.

“Zero to 60,” scheduled for release in February 2016, brings Sinnett full circle, he said. The first jazz group Sinnett led was a quartet, and the album returns to the classic jazz quartet.

Still, it varies in style and concept: “Complex, simple, soulful, melodic and fun to play,” Sinnett said. “Sophisticated on its terms, yet open and meaningful.”

Saxophonist Ralph Bowen, bassist Hans Glawischnig and pianist Allen Farnham, a longtime friend, will make the trip from New York City to play with Sinnett.

Merging talent, technique and soul, the four musicians will usher audiences into unexplored aural landscapes, Sinnett said. Whether or not they understand, audiences will feel.

“It will be like a unique, melodic journey that takes you to unexpected places,” Sinnett said. “The swing beat and grooves will move you.”

Sinnett and friends will play at 7:30 p.m., Sept. 11 and 12 in the Williamsburg Library Theatre, 515 Scotland St.

Tickets are $18 for adults, $10 for kids or $16 for students and Friends of the Williamsburg Regional Library.
