Several years ago, Zion Baptist Church on Richmond Road in Lightfoot began construction on a new sanctuary. The exterior of the 4,800 square foot building was put up quickly. The project then stalled amid changes in church leadership and the downturn in the economy.

The WJCC Scholarship Fund at the Williamsburg Community Foundation awarded scholarships totaling $51,500 to graduating seniors from Lafayette, Jamestown, and Warhill high schools at its awards ceremony on June 2 at Colonial Williamsburg's Bruton Height's Lane Auditorium. The event, attended by nearly 200 students, family members, donors and community members, was sponsored by Middleburg Bank.
