Overview
Water Country USA: A beach, without the hassle
| TIP: If you're schlepping too much stuff, you can rent a locker for the day for $6, or for $4.50 after 3 p.m. The $4 deposit is refundable. The family pet can even snooze at a nearby kennel at Busch Gardens Williamsburg (three miles west on Route 60) for a nominal fee. |
This family water park has a strong following among locals and tourists alike and is only a short drive from Busch Gardens Williamsburg and Colonial Williamsburg.
Don't let the 1950-60s theme fool you -- the park features state-of-the-art water rides. Visitors can also find dining, shopping and other (dry) forms of entertainment.
While the kids grab free life vests and inner tubes for a frolic in the 82-degree wave
pool watched over by Red Cross-certified lifeguards, check out the W.C. Duds Surf Shop and
Way-Out Gifts.
Or catch a few rays in one of the more than 1,000 lounge chairs available.
Hungry? There are seven dining halls. The budget-conscious, or those blessed with
finicky eaters, can pre-pack a lunch and head for the Picnic Pavilion shelter.
Whether white-water rafting, zooming the flumes or merely recharging worn-out tourist
batteries in blue lagoons, Water Country USA poses a refreshing challenge to the
Williamsburg area's high summer temperatures and humidity.
