Maybe you've had a bad day. Or maybe you have had a good day. Maybe you are celebrating a birthday. Or Tuesday.

Whatever the reason, ice cream is one of those foods that you can eat any time.

For the past six years, Bruster's Ice Cream, located in the Williamsburg Crossing Shopping Center, has been doling out delicious treats to area customers who have responded enthusiastically.

"Ice cream is one of those comfort foods, a feel good food," said Sandy Samson, who owns the store with her husband, Tom. "Most people have fond memories of going to get ice cream. It's not just not eating it, it's creating a memory for some people. People want to celebrate what ever it may be, so they come and get their favorite treat."

Bruster's business has continually grown over the years. The Samsons stay "hands on," and stay passionate about their product and pleasing customers.

The ice cream, which daily features a variety of flavors is made fresh daily in the store.

"We use only the best of ingredients," Samson said. "I truly like making the ice cream."

Some flavors can be served immediately, others as my Tom Samson said, "have to sit over night to get happy!"

Bruster's has consistently been voted "Best Ice Cream" in the annual Virginia Gazette's Best of Williamsburg poll. The Samsons appreciate the accolades, and they attribute their success to their commitment to excellence.

"We know we have a fantastic product so we must be hitting the mark with true customer service and fantastic employees and creating that fun environment," Samson said. "We also stay involved with the Williamsburg community. Our focus when we opened Bruster's was our local customers, and it still is our primary focus."

Of course, visitors are a welcome addition for to sales, especially in the summer months, she added. People may be surprised how the Samsons remember them.

"Tom and I have met so many people and may have a hard time remembering their names, but we usually know them by their flavor of ice cream," she said.
