Anyone with any smarts will take this special election in Alabama very seriously. Its results showed more than just the loss of a flawed candidate, former Judge Roy Moore. In my opinion, it displayed the changes taking place today in highly ultra-conservative, right-wing populated areas.
The influence by education, the black population, women's rights and, believe it or not, technology was quite significant, opening the doors to the future instead of the past. Being able to see all the opportunities that are far beyond horizons gives hope to young people growing up in, formerly, politically insulated areas.
Now, Democrat Doug Jones has an enormous responsibility to come through for his supporters. If his win goes to deaf ears, then we will once again have people elected to office who are unqualified, as seen in the 2016 presidential election. Jones' win paves the way for candidates who are more to the middle instead of right or left. This could be the beginning of bipartisanship in the making. America is waiting for it. Thank you, Alabama.
