“The Common Glory” was a drama written by Paul Green about Thomas Jefferson and the birth of a nation. The drama was performed during the summer at the Lake Matoaka Amphitheater at the College of William and Mary.The play opened in 1947 and was very successful in its early years. But the increase in other nighttime activities in the Williamsburg area and the growing expense of producing the drama forced it to close after its 1976 season.
