The Avalon Center is uncorking another small taste of France as its Wine Tour de France fundraising event returns to Le Yaca French Restaurant Sunday.

Wine expert Clement Brown, capitalizing on his experiences growing up in France and 40 years of industry experience, selected the evening’s wines.

“He’s a real lover of wine and does such a great job of finding interesting wines to share,” said Priscilla Caldwell, Avalon’s director of development in charge of the event.

All sampled wine will be available for purchase. Cheese, breads and fruit will also be served alongside hors d’oeuvres such as lamb lollipops and apricot pastries that aren’t on the restaurant’s usual menu.

Those who opt for the top tier ticket option can also enjoy a five-course chef’s dinner, including grilled Maine lobster, prime beef and passionfruit mousse.

The funds raised support Avalon’s mission to serve victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, regardless of age, gender or how long ago the trauma may have occurred. The center has also recently worked to expand its youth outreach, including the introduction of a new summer camp.

“Avalon is reaching more and more people in our community every year with education, prevention, counseling, support and emergency shelter and services,” Caldwell said. “We want the community to help us meet these needs.”

After a week brimming with stormy weather, Sunday’s event intends to be a fun, delectable afternoon against the backdrop of a positive cause.

“It’s building a stronger, healthier community, person by person, year by year,” Caldwell said.
