There’s something different about Posh Salon.
In her time as owner, Nadia Duncan has made many changes in the design and operation of the salon. But perhaps the biggest change is something less tangible.
“Posh is a family,” Duncan said.
And the staff works to make customers a part of that family.
Duncan always desired to open a salon. She began as an employee of Posh, and when the opportunity for ownership arose, Duncan took it about a year and a half ago.
One change was to make Posh an Aveda Concept Salon. Aveda produces plant-based hair, skin and makeup products that are up to 99 percent naturally derived.
“We can get the crazy colors,” said Duncan, who added that coloring is done in a healthy way.
But more than products, Posh offers the Aveda experience. This is evident from the training of the stylists, who attend Aveda classes, all the way down to little things, like complimentary scalp and hand massages.
Salon services include cutting, coloring, makeup, hair and eyelash extensions, conditioning, facial waxing and more.
Posh is “a place to be pampered and a place to feel good,” said Stephanie Cleary, Posh’s marketing director. “We work really hard to make sure that our clients are satisfied.
“We want people to want to be here.”
The Williamsburg community has responded in kind. Posh plans to expand in January by adding five stations.
But Cleary said the Aveda experience is only part of what makes Posh different. The other part is the team of stylists.
“They’re great at what they do,” Cleary said. “And they go above and beyond to make people feel welcome.”
It starts from within, tracing back to the family atmosphere.
“I love the girls,” Duncan said.
Many of them are moms; Duncan herself has two children. They work as a team, even on the busiest days. And they help each other, in and out of the salon.
“It really makes a difference. And people see it,” she said.
