A Christian motorcycle group aims to help high school students pursue their dreams with a scholarship fundraising concert at the Kimball Theatre March 24. The event features performances by jazz musician Sam Rucker and the gospel artists of Total Commitment and the Chosen Few.

Since the group’s inception in 1995, the members of the Buffalo Boyz have emphasized improving the community through efforts such as feeding the homeless and providing school supplies for students. That includes 20 years of offering scholarships to high school students in Williamsburg, James City County, York County, Newport News, Surry, Gloucester and other nearby localities.

“We decided we wanted to ride with a purpose, and that purpose was helping those who needed help,” said James Lee, the organization’s president. The Kimball concert is one more way to do so. “All of the money that we receive goes back to scholarships for those kids.”

A former hip hop producer, Rucker uses his saxophone to put his own spin on contemporary jazz. The Newport News natives of the Chosen Few received Veer Magazine’s Best Gospel title in 2015 and 2017. Total Commitment, of Gloucester, also performs gospel music.

“We hope you have a couple hours of great music,” Lee said.
