WILLIAMSBURG — Kids looking to experience history through more than a textbook have the opportunity to volunteer as junior interpreters at Colonial Williamsburg.

Colonial Williamsburg’s biennial Junior Interpreter Expo is scheduled for 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Feb. 6 at Bruton Heights Education Center. It is the only opportunity for new junior interpreters through the 2016 season.

Expo participants can request placement in preferred roles and sites, everything from costumed interpretation for younger children to working in Historic Trades shops for teens.

The Junior Interpreter program is open to applicants ages 10 to 18 who reside in James City County or the Bruton Heights District of York County, as well as children of Colonial Williamsburg employees. Only children who attend the expo are considered.

After springtime orientation and training, selected applicants are then scheduled to volunteer several hours each week.

Bruton Heights Education Center is located at 301 1st St. in Williamsburg.
