The Run the DOG Street 5K returns to Colonial Williamsburg Saturday for a ninth year of encouraging healthy living and as part of a larger effort to improve lives.

With participants including students who are members of Student Health Initiative Program running clubs from Williamsburg-James City County public schools, the Williamsburg Health Foundation sees inspiration for everyone.

“SHIP has helped to create a culture of health in W-JCC public schools, and that culture of health extends into the community,” Jeanne Zeidler, the foundation’s president and CEO, said in a news release.

More than 400 area students have signed up to participate in the 2018 event. Farther down Duke of Gloucester Street, the Williamsburg Farmers Market will also feature games, a scavenger hunt and samples of new school cafeteria recipes Saturday.

“We want all children in greater Williamsburg, no matter what neighborhood they live in, to have the opportunity to participate in healthy activity and eat healthy food,” Zeidler said. “The partnership with our schools has been truly transformational in the schools, in children’s lives, and in the lives of those connected to the schools.”
