The wheels are spinning for the peninsula’s first-ever food truck-themed festival. Lux Events’ Great Food Truck Festival combines a variety of foods from the area and beyond at Waters Edge Church in Yorktown Saturday.

The lineup of 15 trucks includes Toano-based Matchsticks BBQ, Bali Bali Korean BBQ on the Run and El Coqui’s Empanada Workshop, among others. The food for sale spans Filipino, Puerto Rican, Asian, American and other styles of cuisine.

“Most of the time you can’t get that at one restaurant. This way, you get the opportunity to have them all at one place,” said Shannon Combs, the festival’s director.

The event also includes vendors and games such as corn hole, giant Jenga and bean bag tossing.

More than 3,000 people have registered to attend online. If the festival proves a hit, Combs hopes to double the number of food trucks featured next year.

“When you’re feeding people food, it’s always a great thing,” Combs said. “I just hope that everyone comes out and has a good time, especially enjoying the different cuisines.”
