Instead of shuffling through packed shopping centers, Go Ape encourages families to zip through the trees this Black Friday.

The zip line and treetop adventure course company has renamed Black Friday to #FamilyFriday, nudging families to get outdoors and spend time together.

On Nov. 27, Go Ape will open its courses for free to kids ages 15 and under, accompanied by an adult.

“It’s time we reset our values on this day,” said Dan D’Agostino, managing director of Go Ape USA. The company was inspired by REI’s #OptOutside initiative.

“We encourage everyone to spend the day with their loved ones and enjoy nature, whether it’s hiking your favorite local trail, ice skating or biking,” D’Agostino said.

Get #FamilyFriday tickets at GoApe.com. Go Ape recommends guests book their visit in advance.

In addition to quality time with family and friends, “It’s also probably the last chance to see fall foliage from the unique vantage point of 40 feet in the air, while working off that extra slice of pumpkin pie,” D’Agostino said.

Go Ape is located 5537 Centerville Road, Williamsburg. For more information, call 800-971-8271.
