Plenty of food and fellowship marked the start of the Williamsburg Greek Festival on Friday.

The biannual festival continues through Sunday, hosted by St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church.

“It’s a little taste of Greece,” said Milton Gianulis, presiding priest of St. Demetrios.

The festival features several hand-prepared dishes and desserts available for purchase, including gyros, souvlaki, pastitsio, moussaka, baklava and galaktoboureko.

The weekend also showcases Greek folk dance and music. With a tent and indoor space, the festival will continue rain or shine, 11 a.m.-9 p.m., Saturday and 12-8 p.m., Sunday.

Proceeds benefit the church, both its ministries and building. The building opened on Mooretown Road around two years ago and is still undergoing construction. St. Demetrios’ membership is small, around 100 families, but Gianulis said it’s important that the denomination be represented in the community.

“There has never been an Orthodox church in Williamsburg,” Gianulis said.

St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church is located at 4900 Mooretown Road.
