The fifth annual ShinDIG on Sept. 8 promises a time of barbeque and bluegrass to benefit the Jamestown Rediscovery Project at Historic Jamestowne.

Jamestown Rediscovery is an archaeological project that, since 1994, has worked to uncover and preserve the original site of the first permanent English settlement in America: James Fort, built in 1607.

And Jamestown Rediscovery’s Director of Archaeology, Bill Kelso, will make an appearance at ShinDIG, though not in the way you might expect.

He’ll perform on banjo with the “Who Ever Shows Up” band at the Dale House Café. The band also includes Doug Burgoyne on guitar, Bobby Hornsby and Ellen Kelso on bass, Jack Cowardin on fiddle, Rennie Howard on banjo and Rob Foos on dobro.

Carrot Tree Kitchens presents the barbeque dinner, included with admission, while beer and wine will be available for purchase.

Rain or shine, gates open at 5:45 p.m., with music at 6:30 p.m.

The rediscovery project is a nonprofit effort, and proceeds from ShinDIG benefit archaeological research, educational programs and project operations.
