Real People, Real Stories: This month, the Williamsburg Library’s nonfiction book group focuses on “Savage Harvest,” an investigation into the mysterious 1961 disappearance of Michael Rockefeller in the jungles of New Guinea. Boo Bash at the Beach: Enjoy a day at the beach with a Halloween twist. The event featuring activities, music, games and pumpkin carving and decorating on a first come, first served basis. Running of the Engine: In the 18th century, the responsibility of fighting fires rested with the public, so people practiced with and tested fire engines. Join the Military Programs staff and test your skill in helping to run the bucket brigade. 2:30 p.m. Wednesday through Friday at Colonial Williamsburg’s Magazine Yard. LEGO Open Play: The open-ended fun of LEGOs inspires imagination, and the library is hosting an opportunity to unleash such creativity. Recommended for ages 5 and older. 2-4 p.m. Saturday at the James City County Library. Free.

Yorktown Market Days: Experience a fall Saturday enjoying good eats, exciting entertainment, inspiring artwork and live music with the York River as the backdrop. 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at Riverwalk Landing. Free.

Centuries of Art at WRL: Scouting the Postmodern Film Frontier: The postmodern style of film dates back all the way to the 1920s. This talk will explain and define postmodernism and show short filmic examples to illustrate, such as works by Man Ray, Joseph Cornell and Andy Warhol. 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Williamsburg Regional Library. Yorktown Day: Ceremonies, a parade, fifes and drums performances and special programs commemorate the 236th anniversary of America’s momentous Revolutionary War victory at Yorktown. 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday at Yorktown Battlefield, 1000 Colonial Parkway. Free.

Dewey Decibel Presents Jimmy Masters and Bill Gurley: Gurley’s bluegrass and Americana complement Masters’ emphasis on jazz, promising a night of musical intimacy and reflections on life. 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Williamsburg Regional Library. $5 or $4 for friends of the library.

The Trial of a Patriot: British forces have crushed the American Rebellion of 1776. King George III has ordered that the colonial insurgents be arrested and tried for treason. Will the patriot be put to death or will his fate be something more sinister?
