Dean Risseeuw likes to see the smiles that grow on onlookers faces when they see a model railroad.

As a member of the Ford’s Colony Model Railroad Club, Risseeuw and more than 50 other members will present the club’s 11th annual model railroad display during Grand Illumination weekend.

Eight layouts will fill three rooms of the Williamsburg Regional Library with trains of all sizes.

There’s O gauge Lionel trains, which Risseeuw described as the classic, larger trains that small children can enjoy. Lionel displays will include bells and whistles, a circus and drive-in movie, among other visual delights.

HO scale trains are smaller and detailed making them geared more toward adult enthusiasts.

Then, N scale trains are even smaller. The N scale trains on display will wind through tunnels and past a village. One layout is even original to Germany, built in 1963.

The display, including some interactive elements, is “free fun for all ages,” Risseeuw said. He encourages grandparents to bring grandkids, and kids to bring parents.

To complete a train-filled outing, the Norge Depot train museum is behind the library, open with extended hours on Saturday and Sunday.
