An Occasion for the Arts returns to Merchants Square in October for its 50th anniversary, and the search for the latest round of artists is underway through April 25.
Leo Charette, the Occasion’s executive director, said he anticipates as many as 400 applications when all is said and done.
“It’s amazing,” he said.
Applications require five images showcasing the artist’s work, including one featuring a display booth. Artists may submit up to three applications.
From April 30-May 3, a team of eight jurors will review submissions online; four will judge two-dimensional art and the remaining four will evaluate three-dimensional works. Results will be emailed on June 6. The show will ultimately feature nearly 150 artists across painting, photography, glass, jewelry and other media.
“I think what’s really important is that local artists apply,” Charette said. “Especially since this is our 50th year, it would be nice to have a historical perspective.”
Williamsburg Police estimated as many as 30,000 people turned out for An Occasion for the Arts in 2017. The show is scheduled to return Oct. 6-7 in Merchants Square.
Applications and more information are available at bit.ly/2mdDQv9. The application fee is $35 through April 18 and $45 through April 25.
