Before Opera in Williamsburg performs “Carmen” at the Kimball Theatre April 20-24, the organization is offering a way to preview the performers and support local opera in the process.

A dinner concert featuring live and silent auctions makes noise at the Colonial Heritage Clubhouse Sunday, and online early bidding is underway through Thursday.

“It’s a very good event prior to the opera,” said Linda Kligman-Try, the event’s coordinator. “It gives you a little preview of what’s to come.”

During the concert, singers featured in “Carmen” will perform songs from the opera alongside various Broadway hits. Dinner options include crusted dill salmon, London beef broil sliced au jus and a vegetarian alternative.

Auction items include a romantic dinner for two valued at $250, a four-person round of golf inside Ford’s Colony, lunch with Opera in Williamsburg Music Director Jorge Parodi and the chance to join the cast of “La Traviata,” the opera’s next production scheduled for September.

The proceeds help support Opera in Williamsburg and its educational outreach, including free admission to rehearsals for students in kindergarten through 12th grade.

“The value is priceless,” Kligman-Try said. “That’s what makes this unique for the opera.”
