Relay for Life of Williamsburg’s final volunteer meeting had an unexpected start.

With each volunteer provided a small bottle of bubbles, team recruitment coordinator Sue Harmon encouraged everyone to set stress aside and remember: “why I relay.”

“Smile and be happy and think of your why,” Harmon said. “Take a deep breath, and blow some bubbles.”

For the next minute, everyone did.

Relay for Life of Williamsburg has entered the home stretch of fundraising and planning, with the event just weeks away. The 16th annual Relay for Life of Williamsburg starts 7 p.m., May 20, at Warhill High School, continuing through 7 a.m., May 21.

Event chair Erin Kelly announced at the meeting Tuesday that the current amount of money raised was $118,606. The goal is $230,000. Currently, 65 teams are registered, with a goal of 82.

Plenty of ways still exist to fundraise or volunteer. If interested, email Kelly at ekellyrelay4life@gmail.com. You can form a team at any point, too. Email Harmon at sharmonrelay4life@gmail.com.
