What began as a nationwide search in November ended close to home.

The Williamsburg Health Foundation board of trustees unanimously named current Lackey Clinic Executive Director Carol Sale as the organization’s next president and CEO. She will take over the role held by Jeanne Zeidler, who announced her plans to retire late last year.

Sale described the appointment as an honor and praised her predecessor’s leadership in a news release.

“I look forward to working with the foundation’s talented, dedicated staff,” she said. “Together, we will continue to rely upon the very strong committee structure of the board of trustees and knowledge of the community and expertise about health represented on the board, to build an even better culture of health in greater Williamsburg.”

In addition to heading the Lackey Clinic since 2012, Sale brings experience leading teams at three area health organizations: Riverside, Sentara and Bon Secours.

“We are pleased to have an experienced nonprofit administrator, a healthcare professional and a prominent leader from one of our own grantee organizations take on the president and CEO role,” James Golden, the board’s chairman, said in the news release.

Golden said Sale’s role with the foundation will serve to complement Zeidler’s efforts. Sale will begin her new position May 16.

“We don’t anticipate any changes in our strategic direction,” he said. “We are delighted to have found a chief executive who can continue to build on Jeanne Zeidler’s highly successful leadership.”
