A pair of young adult fiction authors will discuss their work and the creative process during a question-and-answer panel Feb. 17 at Williamsburg Regional Library.

The panel includes science fiction author Will McIntosh, a Williamsburg resident and adjunct professor at the College of William and Mary, who has written eight novels alongside numerous short stories. His tales are known for using futuristic and dystopian settings to explore human relationships and society, according to WRL. His 2016 release, “Burning Midnight,” marked his first young adult novel.

The other panelist, Virginia native and William and Mary graduate A.E. Kaplan, debuted her first novel in March 2017. “Grendel’s Guide to Love and War,” about a teen misfit determined to take down an annoying neighbor who falls in love with the antagonist’s sister in the process, earned the Best Young Adult Novel of 2017 accolade from Chicago Public Libraries and Kirkus Reviews. Kaplan’s follow-up, “We Regret to Inform You: An Overachiever’s Guide to College Rejection,” releases over the summer.

Rachael Nelson, a young adult services librarian at WRL, will moderate the discussion. Planned topics include questions about recent titles, major influences and how the authors mapped out their careers. After the panel, the authors will field audience questions and sign books.

“Virginia is home to many writers who have been published by major publishers, and having these two acclaimed young adult authors with ties to William and Mary and our local area seemed like a great opportunity to connect young people with their work and possibilities beyond Williamsburg,” said Nelson, in a news release.
