The York County Arts Commission is encouraging individuals and organizations to apply for grants in support of art that benefits county residents. The deadline for submissions is March 2.

Applicants for project grants must meet certain criteria to be eligible. They must:

Produce or support art in the realms of dance, literature, music, theater, museums, media arts or visual arts.

Perform or offer activities in Williamsburg, James City or York counties that serve York citizens and are accessible to handicapped individuals and the general public.

Be not-for-profit and exempt from federal income tax.

The commission is also offering a challenge grant of up to $500 to showcase the talents of local and regional artists. The grant allocates funding for eligible individuals and groups to create and present their work, develop new programs and further promote their efforts.

The commission will make grant recommendations in the spring. Funds are scheduled to be dispersed during the county’s 2019 fiscal year, which runs July 1 through June 30, 2019.

Grant applications are available at the York County Park, Recreation and Tourism office at 100 County Drive, Yorktown, or online at yorkcounty.gov/parksandrec.
