A Prayerful Approach to Health Care

"Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." - Christ Jesus. Directly below it on the wall behind the readers' platform, "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need." -Mary Baker Eddy. Two citations, central to the teachings of Christian Science, greet the visitor to First Church of Christ, Scientist, Williamsburg.

A prayerful approach to health care and life, as described in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, guides all Christian Science churches and their members.

In Williamsburg, First Church of Christ, Scientist is located at 620 Jamestown Road. Everyone is welcome at the Sunday Service and Sunday school at 11 a.m. and the Wednesday evening meeting, which includes testimonies of healing, at 7:30 p.m.

Next door to the church is a free public Reading Room, an oasis of comfort and healing for those seeking a Bible-based approach to life and a noninvasive health care system. Here one may pray, read and gather inspiration from music and/or recorded accounts of healing.

In this quiet sanctuary, open to everyone, one may read, borrow or purchase the Bible, Bible commentaries, Science and Health, the Christian Science Monitor and other publications. Here, also, one may obtain a listing of Christian Science practitioners, dedicated individuals who devote their lives to healing the sick and comforting the sorrowing through prayer. The Reading Room is open on weekdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., on Wednesday evening from 6:15 to 7:15 and on Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. One can rest and relax here-comfortable chairs, inspiring Christian books; in all, a peaceful, supportive atmosphere that is conducive to healing and joy.

Perhaps, like many today, you want to separate yourself for a while from the stress and frustrations of modern life. If so, try Christian Science, a new/old approach to well being and health. You will be glad you did. "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, today is big with blessings." -Mary Baker Eddy
