Recently the 2nd grade class in Saint Bede's Children's Faith Formation made cards for a little girl named Gracie who is fighting a rare form of Leukemia. Valentine's Day provided the artistic basis for the cards, and scriptures provided the expressions of love, fellowship and Christian unity. Gracie is a five and a half year-old kindergartner whose teacher shaved her own head to raise money and awareness for Gracie's family. Nicole Phillips, a parishioner and catechist for Saint Bede Catholic Church, shared Gracie's story with her class which prompted the ideas of creating Valentine's cards made by her 2nd grade class to give to Gracie, her family and the hospital staff. Nicole's two daughters and their friend were so inspired by this act of generosity that they also made cookies for Gracie who will be at CHKD for 6 months getting multiple doses of chemo/radiation. Gracie felt the love of God through these expressions of love from Saint Bede's 2nd graders and Nicole's children and their friend.
Valentine's Day is just one day when we are reminded to express our love for others. The compassionate hearts of these children inspires compassion in our own hearts. Please pray for Gracie!
