Feather Schwartz Foster knows a lot about all the first ladies and their presidential husbands. She has been studying them and writing about them for the last 10 years, from her library of over 1500 books from the early days of the presidency. Her latest book, The First Ladies: From Martha Washington to Mamie Eisenhower, an intimate portrait of the women who shaped America, was published in 2011. Needless to say, she had many tales to tell.
Feather has made more than 300 personal appearances, including dozens of radio and TV interviews. This includes lectures at various state Historical Societies, several DAR chapters, nationwide NPR interviews, and Virginia Currents shows on PBS, as well as being featured on C-SPAN's Summary Book on the Lives of 45 Iconic American Women. And, yes, since 2008, when she moved to Williamsburg, she has lectured at the Wren Society here and Christopher Newport University in Newport News.
