ALZHEIMER’S ASSOCIATION WALK TO END ALZHEIMER’S® IN WILLIAMSBURG TO JOIN THE FIGHT AGAINST THE DISEASE

Participants to Raise Critically Needed Funds for Alzheimer's Care, Support and Research

The Alzheimer's Association® is inviting Williamsburg residents to join the fight to end Alzheimer's by participating in the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's. The Walk will take place on October 28, 2018 at Matthew Whaley Elementary School in Williamsburg.

Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's participants will complete a walk with 1 or 2 mile route options and will learn about Alzheimer's disease, advocacy opportunities, clinical studies enrollment and support programs and services from the Alzheimer's Association. Walk participants will also join in a meaningful tribute ceremony to honor those affected by Alzheimer's disease.

"Please join me as I walk in memory of Sam and Judy Johnson, my aunt and uncle taken way too early by Alzheimer's disease. Come help me raise awareness of this devastating disease that will allow families living with Alzheimer's to understand that they do not have to face this issue alone. Accompany me in the fight for Alzheimer's first survivor. I walk because I believe the end of Alzheimer's begins with US and I implore you to believe too," Pat Lewis, 2017 Volunteer Event Chair.

More than 5 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's disease, the sixth-leading cause of death in the U.S. and the only disease among the top 10 causes that cannot be cured, prevented or even slowed. Additionally, more than 15 million family and friends provide care to people with Alzheimer's and other dementias in the U.S. In Virginia alone, there are more than 140,000 people aged 65 and older living with this disease and 455,000 caregivers.
