ALZHEIMER'S ASSOCIATION WALK TO END ALZHEIMER'S®
RAISES 147,000 AND COUNTING IN WILLIAMSBURG

Williamsburg Landing Named Top Fundraising Team at Williamsburg Walk to End Alzheimer's

More than 800 residents from Williamsburg joined the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's in the fight to end Alzheimer's disease on October 28, 2017 at Matthew Whaley Elementary School. Participants raised more than $147,000 to fund Alzheimer's care, support and research programs.

"Thank you to the Williamsburg community for their efforts to increase awareness, raise funds, and share their voice. The success of this event was a direct result of those efforts and a true celebration of the community of those who are dealing with Alzheimer's and of those who support them," said Pat Lewis, volunteer event chair for this year's Williamsburg Walk to End Alzheimer's.

Williamsburg Landing was the top fundraising team at this year's Walk to End Alzheimer's, raising more than $21,000. Brookdale Williamsburg Champions came in second raising over $14,800 and Windsormeade Walkers in third raising over $12,000. With a fundraising deadline of December 15th, organizers are on track to reach their overall goal of $153,000.

Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's participants completed a walk with 1 or 2 mile route options and learned about Alzheimer's disease, advocacy opportunities, clinical studies enrollment and support programs and services from the Alzheimer's Association. Walk participants also joined in a meaningful tribute ceremony to honor those affected by Alzheimer's disease.

More than 5 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's disease, the sixth-
leading cause of death in the U.S. and the only disease among the top 10 causes
that cannot be cured, prevented or even slowed. Additionally, more than 15
million family and friends provide care to people with Alzheimer's and other
dementias in the U.S. In Virginia alone, there are more than 140,000 people
aged 65 and older living with this disease and 455,000 caregivers.
