An Awakening Awareness of the Plight of the Poorest Women in India

Our recent acclaimed speaker has seen the worst of it. She is Gayatri Ganesh, Director of Christina Hospital in India. Gayatri is visiting area universities and Rotary clubs in the US to discuss women's poverty and human rights in India, and what is being done at the grassroots level to work on these issues at her hospital. As Rotarians who are aware of a general lack of quality infrastructure abroad, coupled with systemic social and public health challenges in certain countries, Gayatri is on the front lines of addressing the health and education of women and children in some of the poorest areas in India.

Landa Simmons is the Executive Director of the Rambo Committee, which is affiliated with the Olive Branch Christian Church in Williamsburg. Rambo was created in 1972 to provide a full range of ophthalogical services to the people of India and other developing countries of the world. She and Ms. Ganesh appeared together at a meeting of the JCC Rotary Club.
