With first place in the Bay Rivers district on the line in the regular season finale, the Berkeley Bulldogs held off the Grafton Clippers to secure a 9-8 win on Wednesday afternoon. The victory was a thrilling capstone to an 8-1 season in which the Bulldogs outscored their opponents 100-27. The pitching staff was spectacular throughout the spring. Spearheaded by Jacob Golub, Andrew Ramos, and Josh Ammons, the team ended the regular season with a 2.42 ERA and a 1.15 WHIP. The Bulldog offense was equally impressive. Golub, Ramos, Ammons, Jack Nice, Corey Comeaux, and Alex Russett all ended the regular season with batting averages above .375, and the Berkeley starting nine sported a team batting average of .396 and a team OPS above 1.000. The hit parade continued right on to the Bulldog bench too, as the Berkeley subs contributed to the cause with a .308 batting average this spring. Berkeley Middle School will now enjoy home field advantage throughout the playoffs as they are the top seed in the Bay Rivers District.
