Berkeley Mathcounts Wins Regionals for 5th Straight Year

Under the direction of Ray Hanson, Berkeley Middle's Mathcounts team won the Virginia Peninsula Region championship for the fifth straight year. The 2017 squad put up a dominating performance at this year's competition, which was held on February 4 at Hampton University. Eighth graders Anna Zhang, Alex Klee, and Caleb Song finished first, second, and third, and seventh grader Woody Hulse finished fifth among 43 competitors. The Berkeley Middle team also showed considerable depth, with seven Bulldogs finishing in the top twelve. Zhang, Klee, Song and Hulse will now represent Berkeley Middle at the Virginia State championship competition on March 18, where they will have the chance to move on to the Mathcounts National Championships in May in Orlando, Florida.
