Berkeley Oaks Memory Care Community Launches “Wellness Wednesdays” Series

Wellness Wednesdays Upcoming Schedule:

July 19th at 3:30 pm:
Legacy Scrapbooking

Learn about the Legacy Kit Signature Program, in which Berkeley Oaks' residents and their families engage by creating treasure chests of historical relevance. They share their life experiences, special interests and association with important people or life events. Bring a family member or friend with three photos to participate in the legacy scrapbooking workshop.

August 16th at 3:30 pm
"Let's Go to the Hop"

"Let's Go to the Hop" is a part of Valeo's Create and Compose program and capitalizes on the therapeutic benefits that art and music offer, along with the chance to create new memories. Dancing to music together - sitting or standing - offers a time to reminisce while listening to favorite songs. This program promotes the physical, social, intellectual and spiritual dimensions of wellness. Bring a family member or friend and a list of their favorite songs for us to play.

September 20th at 3:30 pm

Gardening is an activity that a person with memory loss can enjoy independently or with someone else, and also allows them to retain abilities, minimize deficits, and preserve self-esteem. Planting and growing is a vehicle for connecting a person to the past while finding joy in the present, and part of Valeo's VITA program that focuses on the total well-being of an individual, including their body, mind and spirit. This meaningful activity embraces the four dimensions of wellness, which means their physical, social, spiritual and intellectual well-being are nourished.
"Older adults, particularly those with cognitive and memory impairments, receive many personal and rewarding health and quality of life benefits from participating in art, music and other creative avenues that Valeo offers," said Kristin Kutac-Ward, President and CEO of Princeton, NJ-based Solvere Senior Living, whose own family members have suffered with Alzheimer's disease. "Wellness Wednesdays will share these best practices in caring for those with dementia and memory loss."
